The Spark

As artists, we all have millions of ideas spinning around in our heads. Windswept is one near and dear to my heart, that I’ve been wanting to bring to life for years. At the time, as a student, I did not have the resources to create an expansive story spanning several seasons (what I hope this project will one day be) But I knew that my many talented friends and I could create something quite cool and inject a first breath of life into this idea.

The Plan

Design by Holden Levy

Due to the nature of having limited resources as students, I chose to go the route of an “anime opening” aka an animated music video. This would give the team more freedom than a trailer or short would, as well as requiring less skills/specialization that lay outside of our own skillsets as artist/animators. The mission was to operate as lean as possible !!!

Pre-Production

In order to get this project off the ground and pitch it to my fellow students, Pre-Production was incredibly rushed! I had to do it completely by myself over the span of 2 weeks.

This created challenges down the line( Nothing we weren’t able to overcome) but it worked and the project was greenlit and sent into production!

First Background Layout created for the project. Served as the basis for future backgrounds to be based on as well as an integral piece of the pitch package.

Backgrounds

Our backgrounds were at the heart of this production. We had to do a lot of visual storytelling and worldbuilding due to the fact that we could not utilize dialogue of any kind. It was a fun challenge to rise to!
